Jumped on the 'Wax' Wagon!

In one of the Yahoo groups I belong to people have been making these gorgeous "gltter balls". They are made with clear glass ornaments, fine glitter, and the secret ingredient of Future Floor Wax. Well, I've jumped on the wax wagon and made some of my own. Unfortunately, the pics don't do the glitter balls justice at all! They are simply beautiful in person. If you like them, feel free to comment!

Paper Craft Ornaments

These sets of ornaments are made from styrofoam balls, paper, and stick pins. My children love to make these for their teachers for Christmas. It is a very simple craft, yet is a very beautiful finished product. To make them I cut scrapbooking paper into 1" strips, then cut the strips into 1" squares. I fold the two top corners in to make a point. I then put 4 on the bottom, with all four points pointing to the middle. Working my way up I just overlap the next layer, covering the parts of paper that aren't really pointed. To put the hanger on you pin one end of the ribbon 1/2 way up the ball, and the other side 1/w way up on the opposite side. The papers will pin it to the ball as you go up. For the little topper around the hanger I cut 2 stars with a punch and sort of skewed them. I cut up 3 pages of 8 1/2 x 11 scrapbook paper I can make a set of three balls with left over paper. The ornaments look even better when you use egg shaped styrofoam balls, with the skinnier end at the bottom. It looks like a pine cone then. I hope you enjoy looking. Feel free to comment!

Ornaments, Ornaments, and More Ornaments

I have been super busy making ornaments for the girls at work. In my opinion, giving homemade gifts mean much more than something store bought. I just feel that it really comes from the heart when you take the time and put your heart into it. But, that's just me I guess....LOL. So, anyway, here are some ornaments, yes - they ARE store bought - that I altered with some toppers. I used digital stamps from Outlines Rubber Stamp Company. I used a glue pen and glitter to 'color' in the stamps. You can do a couple sets of three in an evening. I'm not the best at picture taking, so I'm sorry if some of my pics are blurry. The ornaments are so dazzling, but the photos do not do them justice I'm afraid. I hope you enjoy looking at them. Feel free to comment!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

Here in Louisiana, we don't have a white Christmas. We won't this year either as far as I know. HOWEVER....we did have a white December 4, 2009! Here are a few of the pictures I took yesterday and last night to document the extremely rare experience. My kids were so excited! They loved it!

"Dirty Santa"

Today at school we have a Head Start teachers meeting. It is a combined meeting and Christmas party. We play 'Dirty Santa'...we all bring an ornament and draw numbers. Then, we choose a package under the tree and look. Well, in Dirty Santa, each person can take whatever ornament they want from whoever they want. #1 gets last choice.....so nobody is safe! Hehehe. So, here are a few pics of the ornament and exploding box set I made. I'm hoping 'Dirty Santa' will keep picking this one!
